Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If you have any questions about our products or services, contact us so that we may provide you with an answer and possibly list it here for others.

What is Net Metering?

A special metering and billing agreement between the utility company and the customer. When a net metering customer's renewable generator system is producing more power than is being consumed, the electric meter runs backward generating credits. When the customer uses more power than is being produced, the meter normally runs forward. Customers are charged only for the "net" power they consume. If their renerable energy-generating system makes more electricity than is consumed, they may be credited or paid for the excess electricity contributed to the grid. There are 35 states that offer net metering. For more information on net metering link to www.dsireusa.org

What is Bi-directional Meter?

A method of metering that measures the amount of energy a customer uses and the excess energy produced from a customer's solar array system.  The excess energy is sold back to the utility for their use.  The energy consumed by the customer and the surplus energy produced may be sold at different rates.  The utility will supply the meter and pay their customers for the surplus they generate!

How many watts does each solar panel generate?

We offer many solar panels with different watts. For residential and commercial systems, normally we install panels that produce between 205 and 225 watts per panel.

As a consumer of solar/solar thermal energy, do I have to do anything different?

No, your solar system is a grid-tied system coming into your home or business just like your utility. The only thing you will notice different is a lower utility bill.

What is LEED?

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). It is a rating system developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) to stimulate green competition in building and to provide standards of measurement to define a green building.

What is Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC)?

The SRCC currently administers a certification, rating and labeling program for individual solar collectors and also for complete solar water heating and pool heating systems. The products must pass a series of durability and efficiency tests in order to be labeled as being in compliance with the minimum standards for certification and the products must bear those labels which show the performance rating for that product.

Consumers benefit from such programs by having a nationally standardized method to independently compare solar equipment and better determine which products to buy.

How many jobs are created by the solar industry?

Today, the solar industry employs more than 100,000 Americans, double the amount of solar workers in 2009. They work at more than 5,000 companies, the vast majority being small businesses, in all 50 states. The indursry grew by 69 percent in the past year, making it one of the fastest growing sectors in the U.S. economy.

Does Solar work here in Mississippi?

Yes! Solar energy works in all 50 states. Germany has more installed solar capacity than any other country and it receives roughly the same amount of sunshine as Alaska. Less than one-third of the photovoltaic capacity installed in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2011 was installed in California. In fact, more PV was installed on commercial buildings in New Jersy than in California during that quarter.

Is solar energy expensive?

Solar energy is already cost effective in many locations across America. The price of solar modules has dropped 30 percent since the beginning of 2010 as the industry scales up and companies innovate with new products and manufactruing techniques. And when compared with other forms of energy, solar is very competitive.
